On the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, the UN Secretary-General stated that renewable energy has become the lowest-cost source of new electricity generation in most regions of the world. In 2025, the total global power generated by wind, solar PV and other renewable sources surpassed coal-fired generation for the first time, making renewables the core driving force for delivering the 1.5°C temperature target.

By the end of 2025, global total installed renewable energy capacity reached 5149.28 GW. China ranks first worldwide with 2258.02 GW of installed renewable capacity, far exceeding the total installed volume of the United States, India and all other individual countries.
Renewable energy has now emerged as the dominant pillar of global new power generation. Driven by widespread energy supply constraints and growing global emphasis on environmental protection, renewable energy is experiencing rapid expansion and steadily shifting its development momentum towards emerging markets and developing economies. According to forecasts from the International Energy Agency (IEA), global installed new energy capacity will reach approximately 7000 GW by 2040, representing a substantial increase from the 4000 GW projected for 2030. By that point, new energy will have gradually replaced coal-fired units as the world's primary power generation source.
As one of the flagship series of conferences of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the RPG series of conferences is held alternately in Europe and China. It is dedicated to bringing together world-leading researchers, academic experts, industry leaders and business elites in the renewable energy sector, to share cutting-edge industry updates, technological innovations and the latest research outcomes.
The 16th IET International Conference on Renewable Power Generation (RPG China 2027) is jointly organised by the IET and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, in October 2027.
The conference has secured support from a wide range of top universities and research institutions at home and abroad. Its Paper Review Committee consists of experts from multiple countries, with numerous IET journal editorial board members participating in the peer review process to ensure the conference maintains high academic quality and full international standing.
RPG 2027 now officially calls for papers from the global research community. All authors working in relevant fields are warmly invited to submit their work and participate in this leading international academic event.
